Reisverslag Week 2
15 november 2015
It was again a lovely week with a lot of new impressions. The contestants are bonding well and working hard. They made paintings of the letters from REACH and were surprised of their own creativity. It’s nice to help them exploring their skills and gain more confident. Tuesday I went to Peterhead and Fraserburgh with Bryan, coordinator from Foyer. In Peterhead is a project called Princess trust, this is for youths, who need to work on their skills to get a job. The normal education is not helping them enough. Princess trust gives them the opportunity to find their skills and be successful in live. Fraserburgh is a fish town, who drug problems. If you buy a block of heroine here, you pay 40 pounds for it and in Leeds it would be 10 pounds! So a lot of drug criminals come to this town, to earn money. Foyer has a couple of projects in this city and they’re doing a good job there!
Friday night was party night, with my flat mates. We went out to a club and it was an interesting evening. I wore my boots, a jeans and a shirt and that was a little bit different than the other girls…because they wore high heels and a little dress. Most of the people were drunk and their dances moves were more movements to stay on their feeds. I thought I was dancing on the music, but Francis (from Nigeria) asked me what I was doing haha! What can I say, I’m just a girl from Holland ;).
Today I made a great walk in Stonehaven. This is a city south from Aberdeen. Stonehaven is a town of around 11.000 people, and has a wonderful location on Stonehaven Bay. The site promised me sun and a lovely time on the beach, but it was too beautiful to be true. I walked 6 miles in typical Scottish weather. During the walk to the castle I saw one person, a lot of mud, a war memorial and an impressive coastline. Dunnottar Castle is a spectacular ruined castle in stunning clifftop location. The earliest parts are from the 1290s. After the Castle I went to Dunnottar Woods and played with several dogs. It was a great day!!
Did you know that,
- Glen Garioch Whiskey has 72% alcohol, after the distillery process? That’s why it has to lay down a couple of years.
- Seconds hand shops are for charity? Like British Heart Foundation or cancer research.
- They don’t like American English here? You can’t say privacy here, but you have to say it like privecy.
- The University of Aberdeen is located in a lovely old building? It’s from 1495 and lays in Old Aberdeen.

Nice to read your experiences overthere and I'd like to see a picture of you in a nice dress with high heels for the next Friday night out! Enjoy!
