06 December 2015 | Verenigd Koninkrijk, Aberdeen

Almost at the middle of the project!

I had a real good week! The students worked hard on their confidence and for the fundraising, I met nice people and visited the first Christmas markets. We had to tell one of the students that this project is not the best place for him to be and this was really good for the rest of the group. They are feeling more save and on their place now. I gave my first activity for my school project and they liked it! I’m going to follow their progress in handling with emotions and a couple behaviors. I’ll do this 3 times and the first one was already interesting ;). Some of the students aren’t used to talk about their emotions, so it was interesting to read their answers. I’m hoping that there will be a change in that for some of them, if they want it.

I went to the Marywell center and a community care center on Friday, again to see other Social Work organizations. I found out that a lot of teenagers are dropping out of school, probably because the education system here. It’s almost exclusively theoretical, so there is now time to be creative for the children. So when a kid has a lot of energy, problems in a social matter or something else what makes them fall behind on the ‘normal’ speed of learning, they are in trouble. Aberdeen Foyer supports these kids, by believing in them and giving them the time to use their talents! I love it!
The community care center is an organization that supports people with a learning disability. They make an agreement what the client wants/needs and help them were possible. We, Janine and I, talked with a student from the RGU.

We went to Newton Dee on Saturday, to see the Christmas fair there. Newton Dee is a Camphill community, were people help each other with developing in their life. Half of the population has a form of a learning disability and other special needs. They made beautiful products to sell on the market. The community lives in a beautiful area and we walked there after the fair.

The rest of the weekend was filled with sunshine, Indian food, running and school work!

Thanks for reading, I’m going to bake pancakes now!
